February 2022 – Self Love

LATEST Inspirations:

At the start of January, I decided to get back into a morning routine of yoga and meditation, after discovering the "30 days Yoga challenge with Adriene". I highly recommend it... and of course you can do it anytime; not just in January or in the morning! The sessions last just 20 to 25 mins, are very well explained and are different every day - with some a little more challenging than others. I've found that doing the session before starting a day's work has been a great boost to my well-being. Perhaps it may work for you at a different time of day but I'd definitely encourage you to give it a go!

January has been a good time to tune in to my feelings and figure out some possible intentions for the year ahead. With the first day of February starting with a New Moon in Aquarius, I've felt a desire to set my intentions for what I want to manifest for 2022. You may have experienced similar urges to 'make a plan' or 'set some goals'. In February we may start to see a glimpse of those underlying intentions before they crystalize and bloom as Spring emerges. One of my intentions is to run more workshops this year and I've now set the first date in March!

Nature starts showing us signs of life again, with snowdrops and daffodils waking up to dazzle in simple beauty. The days are gradually getting lighter and there's nothing more enjoyable it seems than a lovely walk in the countryside on a crisp and sunny February day.

This is how I nurture my self love, noticing the little things that make me happy!

So lets celebrate our inner comforts, mentally build some foundations towards something new, find that space for creativity, and who knows, a new you may appear! Enjoy a Valentine of yourself!

This month, in my quest to explore meditation further, I've found inspiration in the work of author and scientist, Jo Dispenza. In his books "You are the Placebo" and "Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself", I have been mesmerized by the depth of science behind his work and the miraculous changes in the lives of the people who have acted on his findings.

Many, it appears, have managed to reprogram themselves - or rewire their old self - to treat diseases diagnosed as life-threatening or even terminal in some cases, all with the power of the mind. It is fascinating and hopeful.

My mantra for this month is:

  • I am Love

  • I am Enough

GOOD TO KNOW:

> Many of us don't realise - or just forget! - that sugar and carbs are everywhere! Too much of this stuff has a negative impact on hormonal balances, giving rise to health conditions like diabetes or heart disease or difficulty maintaining the correct body weight. I've been looking into low GL (Glycaemic Load) recipes to try and reduce my own intake of sugar. I've been reading Patrick Holford's work on the low GL diet, which basically tells you what a particular food or meal will do to your blood sugar and therefore your energy and health. In his book the "Low GL bible" he explains in terms of maintaining a better glycaemic load, that it's not only about the quality and quantity of the food but also how foods are combined.

> Did you know that mushrooms are high in vitamin D and beta glucan? These are pillars to protect you body's defence systems!

I was recently given a pile of mushrooms to use up, so I made this lovely soup:

- fry a chopped onion and garlic in a pan with olive oil

- add a couple of diced carrots, possibly some celeriac or any root veg you may have in your fridge, also some greens like kale or dark leafy cabbage thinly sliced, a tin of black beans.

- add your favourite veggie stock, a tablespoon of miso and a splash of white wine, pepper. Let it cook for 10 mins

- add your chopped mushrooms (wild ones are even greater in flavour) and simmer for another 10 mins.

- Sprinkle with roasted pumpkin seeds and vegan bacon (I love Cheeky Monkey's 'Yaycon', the chickpea bacon made in Bristol) and a splash oat cream (to your liking).

- Serve with a nice crusty slice of your local sourdough bread!

Bon Appetit!
