December 2022 – Trusting The Unknown

Inspirations:

As the days get shorter and we head towards the Winter Solstice on 21st of December, we need to observe our mood and energy levels, particularly after the eclipse season, that may have thrown our emotions and balance in all directions. It’s a time when things slow down and it’s fine to pace ourselves, letting things go a little with less expectation.

It's also a great time to reflect on the past year and start planning 2023. I found this Year Compass. It's a great tool for starting your reflection and some gentle planning.

I love Jo Dispenza's meditations. Through the process of deep meditation you can reach a point where you 'become nothing' while 'becoming everything', as you gain full trust in the unknown and embrace the future with all your heart. Try to meet with yourself daily for 10 to 15 minutes; let go of your personality and connect with your heart by focusing on your breath... you may find answers to some of your deeper questions.

The Water element in Chinese medicine corresponds to the winter season. This is a time when we forget to stay hydrated because we feel cold. Water Kefir is a great drink to keep hydration on the menu, particularly with the festive season coming! Bladder and kidney issues tend to arise because of the lack of hydration. Note: Coffee and black tea unfortunately add to the process of dehydration.

It's also a great season to eat foods of purple and blue colours. Purple coloured veg like purple potatoes and purple carrots, sweet potatoes and kale, black / wild rice, red cabbage are all great during this season. Purple veg = higher level of antioxidants, which boosts our immunity!

I love making a fresh coleslaw with shredded red cabbage, fennel, carrots a bit of mayonnaise, olive oil and vinegar, salt pepper and add nuts, seeds or pomegranate for a festive look

My mantras for this month:

I trust the universe

I am at peace with myself and the decisions I make

GOOD TO KNOW:

> Learning Reiki: we have now passed our level 1 Reiki and really enjoyed the course with Ayanna, based in Swansea, who is such a lovely soul! Do check out her website as she has so much to offer, from workshops to massage and art. Ayanna is planning an exciting exhibition of her art in January called “Awakening from the Ashes of Violence”.

> New Absorb T- shirts: we have new T-shirts (subtly branded) that feature a design from an original watercolour by my lovely cousin, Brigitte back in France. They are bursting with colour! Come and check them out at one of this month's markets. They may blow your mind!

> Last markets before Christmas will be Sat 17.12 Cowbridge and Sunday 18.12 Riverside. For orders of 6 or more, please get in touch in advance so I can have the stock ready for you. We will have some lovely gift bags available to pick and mix kraut/ kefir/ salt/ glasses/ T shirts. We will be closed from 22.12.22 and back at markets 06.01.23.

> Our new helper at HQ is Meg who started with us in November and helps us with kraut making and labelling, amongst other key jobs. She is a lover of fermented foods and a great yoga teacher.

> Workshops: we had a lovely group in Abergavenny at the beginning of November and market customers seemed to enjoy my talk on fermented foods at Riverside market on 13.11. We really want to schedule more workshops in 2023. Our Cardiff Workshop, scheduled for 26th of November, has been pushed to January 21st 2023 - book in advance as these workshops are designed for small numbers of people.

> Grouped Deliveries outside of Cardiff: We have 2 separate 'grouped deliveries' a month. Please get in touch if you live in the areas detailed below and want a Water Kefir delivery:

  • Newport, Monmouthshire and Bristol: Wednesday 07.12

  • Mumbles, Swansea, Swansea Valleys to Ystradgynlais: second Wednesday of the month. 14.12

WORKSHOPS:

  • We have one workshop left this month with only a couple of spaces left, which is this Saturday (03.12) and one postponed to the New Year (detailed above). If you would like to come and join us in learning more about fermentation and good nutrition in order to maintain a healthy digestive system, please get in touch; a space could make a great gift for a friend!:

Happy Festive Season!
